FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

March 31, 2017

MP Ellis Announces Funding for Quinte West as Part of The Public Transit Infrastructure Fund Program

Trenton, ON – Neil Ellis, Member of Parliament for Bay of Quinte, on behalf of the Honorable Amarjeet Sohi, Minister of Infrastructure and Communities, has announced Government of Canada support for the repair and upgrading of public transit in Quinte West.

A total of $169, 941 in federal funding will be put towards the design and implementation of a new office and vehicle storage space to be used by Quinte Access Transportation. Furthermore, to meet growing ridership demand in our local region, it will also enable the purchase of two specially equipped buses to improve service reliability, as well as accessibility needs of passengers.

These two projects are part of a list of 312 projects announced across Ontario on March 31, 2017, under the Public Transit Infrastructure Fund (PTIF). The federal government is providing up to 50 per cent of funding for these projects.

This investment is part of an agreement between Canada and Ontario for the Public Transit Infrastructure Fund.

“It would be foolish to imagine that keeping our rural communities among the best places in the world to live exists independent of developing efficient and sustainable public transit. The latter plays an important role in allowing us to preserve and protect the agriculturally and visually rich environments that support all our diverse livelihoods,” commented MP Ellis. “By working with our provincial and municipal partners, the Government of Canada has stepped up to deliver real support through projects, like this, to invest directly in the Quinte West region and its many residents,” added Ellis.

“This funding will help us to improve the reliability and accessibility of transit in Quinte West. The federal investment will help us to meet our ongoing commitment to enhance transit services and benefits our entire community,” said Lou Rinaldi– MPP for Northumberland- Quinte West.
